Well, St. Louis, we got through another week. This week wasn't quite as big as last week. However, there were still some interesting tidbits of news and info. So here's the weekly recap of St. Louis sports.

NCAAM: SLU

SLU had a rough week this week. Dropping their game at La Salle 82-75. The Billikens looked awful. They looked like SIUE against Eastern Illinois. SLU shot 40.3% from the field, 21% from three, and 75% from the line. They also had 13 turnovers. You have to give La Salle credit as they did something not many colleges in the A10 can do. They contained Hasahn French. French fouled out of the game with 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists. He only played 17 minutes. Javonte Perkins right now looks like the team's most complete player. He led the Billikens in points with 13 and was one of three shooters to be perfect from the free-throw line (5-5). Fred Thatch shot 6-6, and Demarius Jacobs went 2-2. Jordan Goodwin and Martin Linssen both missed a pair of free throws, as Goodwin went 1-3 and Linssen 2-4.

They have to step up when it comes to free-throws. SLU is 72.2% from the line this season. Jordan Goodwin has missed 14 total on the season and is 65% (26-40) from the line. Hasahn French has missed 23 free-throws and is 29.4% from the line (33-56).

SLU's next game is Saturday, February 6th at 1:00 PM CST, at home vs. the 9-1 St. Bonaventure Bonnies.

NHL: Blues

Ryan O'Reilly Captain of the St. Louis Blues

The Blues played twice this week, on Tuesday and Thursday. They split the two-game set with the Coyotes. They beat the Coyotes on Tuesday by a score of 4-3. They dropped the next game against Arizona 4-3 on Thursday. You can check out a more in-depth recap of those games on the Gateway City Sports website. To sum it up, though, the Blues get better as the game goes on, and the first periods have not been a pleasant experience.

The Blues' next game is Saturday, February 6th at 2:00 PM CST, at home vs. the 4-5-1 Arizona Coyotes.

MLB: Cardinals

Dexter Fowler traded to Angels

This week was a busy week for the Cardinals. On Monday, they made the news everyone had been waiting for, for over a year official. They acquired Nolan Arenado and Cash Considerations for Pitcher Austin Gomber, Shortstop Mateo Gil, Third Baseman Elehuris Montero, Pitcher Jake Sommers, and Pitcher Tony Locey. However, after that, they were not done. In fact, John Mozeliak had hinted at another move in the Arenado introductory press-conference. Saying, "...we might not be done..." Late Thursday night, they traded Outfielder Dexter Fowler to the Angels for a Player to Be Named Later.

There is a chance that there is more where that came from. It's speculated that the Cardinals could sign Pitcher Jake Odorizzi. It would definitely be a good pickup and brings a hometown product back home.

XFL: BattleHawks

Taylor Heinicke ramping up the St. Louis fans

Former BattleHawks backup QB Taylor Heinicke received some huge praise from Washington football legend Joe Theismann. According to NBC Sports, Washington Theismann would be "very comfortable" starting the former XFL backup. Per Ben Fischer, The XFL is searching for a "Chief Football Officer" or CFO. While this was not this week, it is still huge news for the league. I also was told by a source that "News is coming soon but as for this past week. There was nothing imminent. We are getting closer." With that, buckle up, everyone. It's about to be a busy couple of months for the XFL as we get closer to 2022 and kickoff.
