The last time St. Louis played back-to-back doubleheaders was July 21 and July 22, 1994, against Atlanta.
Due to Mother Nature's weather interruption on Friday night, they have another after twenty-five years of avoiding a Baseball Marathon Weekend, two days of split day-night games.
At this hour of the morning, 'from the hourly' report, cloudy to partly sunny for today and good to go this evening. Sunday ~ partly sunny. But per the "day" report for today ~ a 30-40% of rain 'off and on".
We will hope for the best and hold faith that Mother Nature has gotten the 'the hourly' memo.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 31
The St. Louis Cardinals, hosting the Cincinnati Reds this weekend, already had one doubleheader scheduled due to the same, "rain out", Wednesday, June 5. That game to be played at noon (CST) today. The roster goes for a 25 man to 26 man roster.
Saturday's Day-Night Split Doubleheader ~
Game One, First pitch at 12:15 pm ~
Starting pitchers, scheduled for Friday night's match-up, remain the same:
Cardinals Dakota Hudson (13-6/3.47 ERA) to face Reds Trevor Bauer (10-11/4.34 ERA).
Game Two, First Pitch at 6:15 pm:
Cardinals Michael Wacha (6-6/4.34 ERA) vs Reds Sonny Gray (10-6/2.92 ERA).
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1
The good news for both teams - and all of the MLB - rosters expand from a 25 man roster to a 40 man roster.
Sunday's Day-Night Split Doubleheader ~
Series Game Three, First Pitch at 12:05 pm:
Cardinals Miles Mikolas (8-13/4.32 ERA) will face Reds Tyler Mahle (2-10/4.93 ERA).
Series Game Four, (rescheduled from Friday, August 30), First Pitch at 6:05 pm:
Cardinals rookie Daniel Ponce de Leon (1-1/3.76 ERA) will face Reds Luis Castillo (13-5/3.21 ERA).
The Cardinals, currently holding first place in the NL Central Division, will look to get the wins to hold their position at the top. The Chicago Cubs, who won their first game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field on Friday, sit one game back.
This will definitely be a test for both, Cardinals and the Reds, of endurance.
Even though the Reds sit in the #4 spot (10.5 games back) in the NL Central, they excel at being a "Spoiler Team". Hands down can not be taken for granted.
And neither team have Monday off.
Reds will head home after Sunday night's game to host the Philadelphia Phillies. Cardinals remain at home at least, to host the incoming San Francisco Giants.
