Although the St. Louis Blues have not yet been firing on all cylinders like many expected their stacked lineup to be this season, Craig Berube may have struck gold in his construction of a line that includes a two-way workhorse in Jaden Schwartz, a bruising power forward with offensive flair in Brayden Schenn, and a lightning-quick phenom who is anxious to prove himself as an NHL superstar in Jordan Kyrou.
As of January 21st, this trio has teamed up for 4 goals out of the 10 total, combined for 6 assists, and has been a pillar of example for the rest of the team through the first four games.
This hasn't come out of anywhere, though. The Schwartz-Schenn-Tarasenko chemistry was dynamic and one of the catalysts of this team for a long time. Building off that energy while adding a Swiss Army knife of offensive talent in Jordan Kyrou in Tarasenko's absence could very well be the ball that gets the breakout rolling for the 22-year-old as long as he continues to impress with his defensive ability as well.
"Every day I continue to just work on that," he said when asked by Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, "that has been Chief's big thing is to compete and be tenacious on the puck, and that's one thing I really learned a lot, and I'm really bringing it to my game." Kyrou currently leads the team in points with four and, even with Wednesday's shootout loss to San Jose, still managed to maintain his point per game streak. In his final season with the Sarnia Sting in the OHL, he kept that pace and a little bit more. Finishing his season with 109 points in only 56 games played, Kyrou was named MVP of the OHL and awarded the Red Tilson trophy to inscribe his name alongside a list of impressive names before him like Mitch Marner, who won it in 2016, and Alex DeBrincat, who won in 2017.
This line has the potential to be a dangerous weapon for the Blues all season long and, if they continue to produce at the rate they are currently, there's no reason to believe Jordan Kyrou won't make waves across the NHL headlines with some highlight-reel goals and the stats to match them by the end of this season.
The Blues take on the Los Angeles Kings in a back-to-back series starting Saturday night. It should be the perfect time for Ville Husso to make his first start of the 2021 season and the Blues to get some other players rolling so they don't have to depend entirely on the Holy Trinity mentioned above to will them to victory.
